While I suspect that media-pushing is part of the problem, I suspect a lot of the population is so innumerate that they cannot understand that 25% means “1 in four” or for that matter what the latter phrase means.

Years ago, a friend mine tried to go see VI at a frat party. A lowly freshman, he couldn’t get in the front door and climbed the fence in the back where… lo and behold the Iceman himself was smoking up in the back yard. Vanilla Ice took him under his wing, snuck him into the concert, and they ended up balling out together ‘till God knows when. Ice, ice, baby!
