Hey, Lookie Here At What Bishop Benhase *Doesn’t* Mention In His General Convention Postlude
Make sure you read the entire piece, so that we can all learn not to engage in “reckless hyperbole.” But hey—so eager is he not to indulge in reckless hyperbole, that the good bishop fails to mention two *canonical changes* that were enacted at this General Convention. He mentions the budget thingy, and the re-structuring thingy, and even the same sex provisional rite thingy . . . but there’s something important that happened that he didn’t think he’d mention. Do you think he hopes that if he doesn’t say it out loud that parishioners won’t notice?
By now many of you have heard various news reports and opinion pieces about our Church’s 77th General Convention. Not surprisingly, I have read many exaggerated reports and some that are just plain wrong.
Why do you think he didn’t mention it in his little post-General Convention update?
And actually, there are quite a few revisionist bishops who have mysteriously chosen not to mention the passage of these two canonical changes in their little reports back to their dioceses.

I think it know what the SSB means in DGA. A survey was taken prior to his election and 70% were against it.

“Why do you think he didn’t mention it in his little post-General Convention update?”
Perhaps he was trying to “make mission a higher priority” for his future diocesan budgets - i.e., to “develop the resources needed for the Diocese and its congregations to thrive.”
Mentioning the canonical changes might be… unhelpful at this time.
“One day we will have the privilege of serving him in heaven. Until that day, we will struggle to discern what is faithful to the Gospel of Jesus.”
Of course, then there are those times when one can clearly discern what is required to be faithful to the Gospel - but one chooses to do otherwise.

There are two key points the Bishop makes:
1. “What will this mean in the Diocese of Georgia? Frankly, I do not know.”
2. “If you enjoyed this article, please consider sharing it!”
OK, the second one is probably web driven but follow Sarah’s lead and do share.

It is interesting to watch how forthright and brave the liberal bishops were at General Convention, and how craven and secretive many of them have been after it.

Money, money, money! The diocese is in the middle of an ill-advised capital campaign that Bishop Benhase sees as his legacy to the diocese. With the majority against SSB, the conservatives in the diocese have been quiet, the less he says the more he keeps the dollars and congregations in the fold.

Frhutch,
Actually they aren’t keeping dollars nor congregations in the fold. The majority of Calvary Church Americus, along with their rector left and formed a new Anglican Church under the Rt. Rev. Foley Beach for the Anglican Diocese of the South. This move was followed recently by the departure of the St. John’s Moultrie, 100% of their vestry and congregation who formed St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Moultrie also under the Rt. Rev. Foley Beach. In at least one instance the Diocese is now the owner of a nice empty building. Not to mention that the Diocese of Georgia also has the support of the property of Christ Church Savannah that they won in the lawsuit against the departing congregation. Whatever happens in Georgia, it will be sad to see. I have many dear friends that remain in this Diocese. Only time will tell.
