Louise Brooks, RIP

I just received a note from someone on the other side of our battle lines, informing me that Louise Brooks, the longtime partner of The Rev. Susan Russell, has died.

As Stand Firm veterans know, Susan and I have clashed innumerable times across the blogs, and even had a little face-to-face dust-up in Columbus, Ohio at the 2006 General Convention that I caught on video. We saw each other again in Anaheim in 2009 after a long day of conventioneering, and sat on a bench outside one of the big halls and had a much more friendly chat. It was quite the interesting moment.

Susan has lost someone very special to her, but despite our differences - and they are many and they are deep - I’d like everyone to take a moment and say a prayer for Louise’s soul. Say one for Susan, too, that she and everyone who loved Louise will be strengthened in this time of grief.

O God, whose mercies cannot be numbered: Accept our prayers on behalf of your servant Louise, and grant her an entrance into the land of light and joy, in the fellowship of your saints; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

From the Committal:

Into thy hands, O merciful Savior, we commend thy servant
Louise Acknowledge, we humbly beseech thee, a sheep of thine
own fold, a lamb of thine own flock, a sinner of thine own
redeeming. Receive her into the arms of thy mercy, into the
blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious
company of the saints in light. Amen.

My condolences and prayers to Rev. Russell

Very sad to hear of Louises passing. May Gods angels convey her to the Father and may Susan be granted the measure of grace sufficient to weather the grief and loss and through the infilling of the Holy Spirit be renewed to life and the service of our resurrected Lord Jesus.

May the grief Susan feels be lightened by God’s good mercy.
