Just Because…
I know it isn’t yet an official Episcopal Holy Day yet, but I figure by next General Convention there will be enough support to put it on the calendar. So, in honor of International Talk Like a Pirate Day, I offer first the incomparable George Harrison:
And then, on a more elevated note, and with apologies to Gilbert and Sullivan, perhaps the finest piece of music ever devoted to the subject of piracy, by Emerson, Lake, and Palmer:
And if this doesn’t meet with your approval…go swab the poop deck, ye bilge rats, or you’ll be swingin’ from the highest yardarm!

David,
It is fast becoming a high holy day.
You must have missed the pirate Eucharist at St.Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Belvedere CA last October. Don’t worry, since it was such a success last year, they are doing another this October 28. If you can’t find a place to dock your ship in the Belvedere Lagoon, try St. John’s Oakland on October 25.
(A quick look at their parish statistics tells me that both churches must have been boarded by pirates because they have been jettisoning ballast pretty regularly over the last 10 years)
Or maybe you just forgot about the one at Trinity Cathedral Sacramento that Allan blogged about in 2008.

Leave me out of this, heretics. I only observe International Talk Like A Somali Pirate Day.

#3 is disrespectful of the Prophet. It is high time that SF become a “Blasphemy Free Zone.”

Undergroundpewster:
The folks in charge of the SS ECUSA run a tight ship. Things are getting tighter all the time. Although dreary interior staterooms without a view are still available.
The nice thing about Pirates Day is that it keeps the clowns below decks for 24 hours. They won’t dare to venture any further than the lounge. After that, they’re back to their “Masses” and the rest of us just have to hold on for another year.
I am thinking about declaring myself in communion with the Anglican Church of Somalia. Is there one?

Could someone rewrite the Gilbert & Sullivan opera for TEC and call it the Pirates of Penance? I would pay money to hear Schori sing “I am the Model of a Major Primate.”

Oops, got that wrong. It should have been “I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major-Primate.”

Daniel #9 and #10,
My friend Wallace Hartley did that one a while back and called it “The Present Paradigm of a Perfect Presiding Priestess.”

Undergroundpewster,
Looked at it - brilliant; or ausgezeichnet as the Lutherans would put it.
