CNN on Syrian Chemical Weapons

Well they are being very cautious in what they scroll (Thursday 1130 CST).

[Defense Secretary] Hagel: “We have to get all the facts.”

EXCEPT for a couple of scrolling certainties:

1) The weapons are “small scale” (in other words, not weapons of mass destruction)

2) They were “developed in Syria by the Assad regime” (in other words, “Although we don’t have all the facts, there’s no freakin’ way these were trucked over here from Iraq when Saddam Hussein wanted to hide ‘em.”

Poor CNN.  Bush 43 is getting his Presidential Library opened up today - it would be just too much if WMDs from Iraq were verified on the same day.

The Obama administration has the resolve of a wet noodle.  Despite this “red line” being crossed, they’ll dither and let the UN or the EU take the lead if they do anything at all.

Tehran is laughing.

When asked about it, Canon Andrew White, vicar of Baghdad, said that members of his congregation had family members die when moving the chemical weapons from Iraq to Syria under Saddam Hussein.

#2 Absolutely correct. There is evidence held at the federal level that affirms chemical weapons were transported to Syria from Iraq before the fall of Baghdad.

It is scary to find out how information regarding Saddam Hussein’s chemical and nuclear weapons program has been underplayed or unreported by the U.S. news media. I can’t remember it clearly now, but last year it was reported on the back pages of our newspaper that some kind of nuclear material left over from Husseins reign was being transported to Canada for safety reasons. At the time I thought that our news media was either lazy or negligent for not picking up on the story but now I wonder if they simply don’t have the courage to report what really happened to Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction.

If, as alleged, al Quaeda gets hold of these weapons, then Western governments are going to have to take military action to prevent their use, but the problem as I see it is one of locating those weapons and destroying them before they can be used against us.  There can be no dithering now, since it’s clear that time is of the essence.
