More Questions From The Skeptical Luncheons

Wednesday, March 3, 2010 • 12:16 pm

I’ve posted several posts about the Skeptical Luncheons being hosted here in Greenville by The Caleb Group.

Keep in mind a comment I made on another post about this series:

“I think what I have found the most helpful as I get Johnny’s emails about these lunches is to read the questions that the non-Christians are coming up with.  That is what intrigues me.”

You can read the other questions the group came up with at the series of blog posts linked above.

Here are the latest questions under consideration—chosen by the group:

The questions on the table right now are:
Morality of the Old Testament Law (e.g., Deuteronomy 25:11, 12)
Discrepancies in the Bible
Why do some OT experts (Rabbinical) reject Christianity?

Comments:

Always interesting. Thanks Sarah.

FWIW, a 13th-century Spanish commentary on the Torah commandments apparently interpreted Deut. 25:12 this way:
To save someone being pursued by a killer, even by taking the life of the pursuer (Deuteronomy 25:12.)
To have no mercy on a pursuer with intent to kill (Deuteronomy 25:12.)

Granted, a pretty extreme example, but a slightly different way to approach the question—even as we agree that the Law has been fulfilled in Christ.

I am all for the effort and am interested in the questions. Nicky Gumble tells a story about presenting the gospel and being faced with the local skeptic who hit him with a barrage of questions. As he was preparing to anwser, his friend asked if the questions could be answered would the questioner consider becomming a Christian. The anwser was of course not.
