After Cutting Ties with Planned Parenthood, Komen Donations up 100 Percent
On a Thursday conference call Nancy Brinker, the founder and CEO of the Komen Foundation, told reporters that the organization is “singularly focused” on combating breast cancer, and that the politics of the decision to stop funding Planned Parenthood has been distracting from their mission.
Nevertheless, since cutting ties, Brinker announced that Komen’s donations have gone up in the last two days — by 100 percent.
“Our donations are up 100 percent in the past two days. With all of the emotion around these issues — which we understand, we get emotional too, we do this every single day of our lives,” Brinker said, explaining that they do not make decisions to be popular, they make them to fight cancer.

Praise God! I had planned to wait to see if they make this permanent but I feel moved to send a donation.

My wife and I support breast cancer research, but when we found that the Komen Foundation supported abortion, we stopped donating to them. We prefer to give to the the American Cancer Foundation, instead, and that’s what we’ve been doing.

I meant to say “The American Cancer SOCIETY.”

Maybe now donations will actually go toward breast cancer patients and research.

cennydd13, the American Cancer Society has given grants to Planned Parenthood for cancer prevention.

Paula, that’s great news too!

Jill, my wife and I have known this for quite a while, and that’s why we support them. Another reason is that I’m a cancer survivor, and have been since 1978.

This doesn’t, however, mean that we support Planned Parenthood’s abortion program. We don’t, and we have told them that we cannot in good conscience support them in that respect.

If the American Cancer Society is giving grants to Planned Parenthood, the fact that the grants are for “cancer prevention” is just the same as the Komen Foundation’s “cancer prevention” grants to PP. Money is fungible. If we give to the cancer screening (and Planned Parenthood actually does very little of this compared to the large volume of their abortion business) then PP can devote more funds to its abortion clinics. The same thing happens in churches which allow parishioners to designate their donations away from the diocese or national church. In most places the parish still has to pay its diocesan assessment; they just use more of someone else’s money to do it, but the result is the same.

This just in - Komen has REVERSED its decision to stop grants to Planned Parenthood, according to the Dallas Morning News and other sources. Wonder if they’re going to return the pledges of the last couple of days.

Just saw this. Glad I hadn’t sent them anything yet - sure won’t now. What changed since they made their original decision? Congress is still investigating PP. SGK looks like a bunch of fools now. They caved in to the pressure from the rabid left. What’s really scary is that those senators pressured them.

This sounds ominous:

I just tried to access their site to send a comment and it seems to be down—says server busy. I just contributed to them but will ask for my money back if this information (on them refunding PP) is correct.

Just requested a refund of my donation—how sad.

Looks like they folded. Donate some where else.

So once you begin dealing with the abortionists you can never stop. Shame on the Komen Foundation. Their statement means that they will only stop donating to organizations which have been charged with criminal violations (“criminal and conclusive”), or perhaps only those convicted of crimes. They have given in to political pressure while maintaining that that won’t react to “political” investigations.

I wonder what will happen to all those donations in the wake of their backdown?

You’ve no doubt heard the phrase “rush to judgement” now you’ve experienced “rush to support”. No refunds, no returns, all sales final.
