Sen. Rubio:  America Cannot Fulfill Its Destiny Unless It Ends Abortion

I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;

Some people take this admonition seriously, praise God!  Believe it or not, this speech was made by a politician - in public.

“At the end of the day our nation can never truly become what it fully was intended to be unless it deals with this issue squarely,” he said. “America cannot truly fulfill its destiny unless this issue is resolved. It’s that important.”

Rubio explained the importance of the task in religious terms, saying that he will one day need to answer to God for his actions and failing to fight against abortion — after all the gifts God has bestowed on him — is simply not an option.

“America is great because God has blessed America. And America has always honored that blessing by being an example to the world. … There is nothing that America can give this world right now more important than to show that all life — irrespective of the circumstances of its creation, irrespective of the circumstances of its birth, irrespective of the conditions of that they find themselves in — all life, in a planet where life is increasingly not valued, in a planet where people are summarily discarded, all life is worthy of protection. All life enjoys God’s love,” Rubio concluded to a standing ovation.

Casting a vote for this man would be a privilege.

If I could vote for him, I would!

There is a lot to like in this speech and i wonder if anyone has the full text or video of it. It is refreshing that he has identified this as a foundational issue that defines what kind of society we want to be; and that the rights of the unborn to life trumps virtually every other human right, because without life, the other rights dont matter.

I believe that any country that wants to improve its economic well being, its national security, its aged care and care for the underprivileged must begin by caring for its young, and lifting its birth rate. Everything else follows from that. That is why God told the man and the woman in the garden to go forth and multiply. He would take of the rest. Any community which is not willing to abide by that instruction will die because it does not deserve God’s blessing on self centredness and individualism.

It strikes me that the huge evil that Sen. Rubio is speaking about bears many parallels to the slavery issue of the 1850’s.  A majority of the nation was appalled at slavery, but a ferocious, dedicated minority fought to maintain the evil.  The divisions were so intense, we had to fight a civil war to finally wring out the evil among us.  Incredible amounts of power and money, not to mention control are lined up on the abortionist’s side.  How big will the fight be to win the day?

I sense the tide is turning in favor of right to life. Senator Rubio is a breath of fresh air in politics.

Amazing that a politician was so open and blunt about the issue. Thank God for Rubio! I too would love to vote for him.

Exactly, Nellie!

If only every politician who claimed the conservative label would embrace what it means to be a conservative, this nation would vote for them in a landslide. I am convinced that if you give the voters a clear choice and they will make the right decisions.

Say what you mean and mean what you say should be the motto of the winning party.

Actually, Rick Santorum has been very open about his support for life, though he gets little [positive] recognition for it.

I agree with Fr. Dale that the tide of public opinion seems to be swinging toward the pro-life side.

A key question [in my mind] is how solid that support will be when the left ratchets up the rhetoric for abortion.

Will the average citizen understand how dishonest the President is when he says “Roe v. Wade is the chance to recognize the “fundamental constitutional right” to abortion and to “continue our efforts to ensure that our daughters have the same rights, freedoms, and opportunities as our sons to fulfill their dreams.”

Will the average citizen recognize syncretism when the President mixes Christian teachings and Islamic teachings to preach that Jesus wants us to tax the rich.  Will they realize that those taxes and their taxes will go to pay for abortions?

How will citizens react when the full weight and police power of Government declares there will be abortions for all?

As I said on the Susan G. Komen thread, it’s really scary that 20 (last number I heard) Democratic senators put pressure on SGK.

Yep, and the breaking news on Fox right now is that SGK is backtracking from their stance against PP.

Boy, oh boy, oh boy…....

Satan is like the camel that first puts his nose inside the tent and before you know it the camel is inside and you have been pushed out. It’s is the same in the secular world, Satan has moved many to push his will on all by changing laws of man that go against the laws of God. Thus he makes those who wish to follow God’s law disobey the law of the land. It’s a sad state of affairs. He is patient and his will is very strong and he has thousands of years of practice in convencing man that what he does here only affects us in this life.

Excellent speech. Outstanding statesman. We may not live where we can vote for him(unless he ends up as a vp candidate). But we can make campaign contributions from any locale.

I think Mitt Romney, should he be the Republican nominee, would be well advised to work out some accommodation with Senator Rubio to overcome the latter’s stated “Gen. Sherman” position.  The man simply is head and shoulders above other Republican VP prospects at the moment and he would surely bring in enough votes to make the ticket an easier winner.

I’m actually glad he did not run from POTUS this year.  One of Obamma’s biggest mistakes - and that of his supporters - was assuming that a political career of 6 years in the State House followed by less that one full term in the US Senate gave him they experience to be president.  I see lots of very bright lights in the GOP future:  Jindal, Rubio, Ryan, Schock.  But on the other hand, given the state of the nation today I’m not sure we can afford to wait.
