A Reading for the Eleventh Day of Christmas [and from one of my favorite writers]

Preached at S. Pauls upon Christmas Day. 1626.

The whole life of Christ was a continual passion; others die martyrs, but Christ was born a martyr . . . His birth and his death were but one continual act, and his Christmas-day and his Good Friday are but the evening and morning of the one and the same day.

A Sermon by John Donne

So should our lives be a continual evening and morning offering, a continual crucifixion of sin, a surrender of body, soul and spirit, living exchanged lives under the Kingdom of God in the Holy Spirit, ...continually being redeemed, sanctified, given back to God to be used in His hand as instruments of righteousness.

Sarah,

I also love the writings of John Donne. “Never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.”
