Oh dear.
Dean John vanNostrand Wright, executive director of the Anglican Foundation of Canada, expressed his concerns about the name of the new organization: “I think it will be very confusing because we’ve got two different missions going on here,” he said. “We are in business to support the whole of the Canadian church and they’re obviously in business to support the conservative wing of the Canadian church, or at least anyone who joins with the guy who set it up…. I’m not sure who he is representing.” The Anglican Foundation of Canada is seeking advice from legal counsel.
“The Anglican Foundation of Canada is working with the Anglican Church of Canada to provide trust services and that kind of thing, and if it becomes confusing to people that we’ve got two different groups coming, then it sounds to me as if they are sliding along on our coattails, and that shouldn’t be allowed,” said Mr. Wright.
Mr. Daley said he had not spoken to anyone at the Anglican Foundation of Canada yet, but said, “We’re not trying to cause confusion and we’re certainly not trying to compete.” The CAF is awaiting government approval for its incorporation as the Canadian Anglican Foundation. If the name is deemed to be too similar and an agreement cannot be reached with the Anglican Foundation of Canada, Mr. Daley said his group will have to change its name. Mr. Daley said he would not name the other six directors of the CAF until the organization was incorporated.
Who’s Michael Daley?
Ohhhh evan - for some of us, Michael Daley was one of first bloggers we found, years ago, that was discussing the Anglican Communion and all that entails. He’s a rock star! (And a really funny blogger)
Thanks, Bradford.
Ms. Hey has missed the real story, here, though. The Journal’s article was written in such a fashion as to attempt to discredit myself and the Cranmer Foundation of Canada. The final paragraph, lifted off my BLOG and NOT the Foundation website merely serves to reinforce this crude and churlish move on the part of the Journal.
As a result of the article, lawyers became involved and we were forced to change our name and to relinquish our domain name. Letters were also issued to Industry Canada in an attempt to block our incorporation. Read this again, Ms. Hey. An attempt to block the incorporation of a Foundation that is seeking to give money and technical assistance away for free.
I am quite surprised that Ms. Hey would quote this part of the article, rather than the more substantive quotes in which I denied any wish to compete with or supercede the mission of the Anglican Foundation of Canada - a ministry of the Anglican Church of Canada.
While I find the whole situation a simple annoyance and just what one ought to anticipate from a left-wing liberal rag such as the Anglican Journal, I am profoundly disappointed in Ms. Hey’s apparent endorsement of the Journal’s take on the matter.
I should note that the only reason the article even was written, was as a direct result of the Foundation issuing a press release putting its full support behind Vision 2019 - a project of the Anglican Church of Canada.
In the spirit of Mt 5:43-45, Ms. Hey, we will continue to love and pray for you and the editorial department at the Anglican Journal.
The ‘happy ending’ to the story is that Father Wright was very gracious when we agreed to comply with the demands of the AFC lawyers. We are thankful that he had the humility to back down and admit to this being an unfortunate and very public misunderstanding.

Branford:
While I must thank you for the accolade of “Anglican Rock Star”, it should be noted that I was simply the “man behind the man” at CaNN. I’m not sure who started calling me that, but it’s made the rounds. Thankfully, bigger and better “Rock Stars” have taken over in the form of Stand Firm. They are the Led Zepplin to my Duran Duran.
It wasn’t until the CaNNet project and our various other exploits came to fruition that I gained any “notoriety.” (read: notorious reputation for being a sh*t disturber).

Best,

Wait’ll we get to Anaheim… I firmly intend to start throwing TV’s into the pool.
Mike, you and Christopher Johnson at the Midwest Conservative Journal saved my sanity and opened my eyes when I first started trying to figure out what was going on in ECUSA around 2004. Beaucoup thanks!
RE: “Read this again, Ms. Hey.”
I have no need to read it again, as Mr. Daley sent a link to a number of people—including Ms. Hey—which was how Ms. Hey learned of it and why she posted it.
RE: “I am quite surprised that Ms. Hey would quote this part of the article . . . “
Really? I am quite surprised that Mr. Daley would send the article to people—including Ms. Hey—if he did not wish for Ms. Hey to post it. Ms. Hey quoted, in fact, the first very gracious and gentle comments by Mr. Daley that were in the story but did not simply copy and paste the entire article in order to get to all the very gracious and gentle comments by Mr. Daley. The post was rightly meant to enjoy the Fearsome Horrors of the portentious Anglican Foundation of Canada and to give a little publicity to Mr. Daley’s new venture. The post did little but link to the news, and Ms. Hey made no attempt to describe “the real story”—figuring that Mr. Daley and others would comment and fill in the gaps and tout the new venture. It appears . . . that was a vain hope as Mr. Daley missed the point of the post.
RE: “While I find the whole situation a simple annoyance and just what one ought to anticipate from a left-wing liberal rag such as the Anglican Journal . . . “
As do I.
RE: “. . . I am profoundly disappointed in Ms. Hey’s apparent endorsement of the Journal’s take on the matter.”
Well—Ms. Hey would certainly be disapppointed, if Ms. Hey had “endorsed” anything at all by the Journal, rather than simply linking to the news about the kerfluffle with the Anglican Foundation and asking a nice question in the headline about an old ally.
RE: “In the spirit of Mt 5:43-45, Ms. Hey, we will continue to love and pray for you and the editorial department at the Anglican Journal.”
Why thank you for that. It is clear that with “enemies” like Ms. Hey, Mr. Daley needs no friends at all.
In the spirit of Numbers 22:32, I’ll respond by taking on the role of the ass this time around, since others have gone first in that role on this thread.
Twilight Zone.
