Ah, Dr. Mabuse, we’ve missed ya.
And they didn’t get worked up about human sexuality, for some reason! (Nice of him to limit the topic to human sexuality, but isn’t that a bit narrow? Oh, well, give him another 10 years or so, and who knows what “exciting times” may bring.) Not like people today. Maybe there was a reason why they weren’t worked up about it. I’d say it’s the same reason Bishop Chapman isn’t “worked up” about the possibility of having human feces for dinner tonight. Because he doesn’t consider it within the bounds of sanity or decency. But that just goes to show that he’s as narrow and unimaginative as those earlier Anglicans he’s so proud to have left behind. If a determined group of coprophragiasts should start loudly demanding that their exotic gastronomic tastes be included during Communion, I think Bishop Chapman would be surprised to find how quickly he’d find himself getting “worked up”.
“Chapman is hoping that Primate George Hiltz, head of the Anglican Church in Canada, will create a commission to address the problems.”
Well, George will probably follow the lead of Kate just like he followed the lead of Frank. You will note how all this following is anyone or anything except the Master and His Plan. It’s very cold in Canada ........ and Coccyx, too.
I wonder if savvy theological students will realize, when studying “Pastoring 232: Folding up a Church,” that the final act in “steering communities through traumatic change like closing a church” will be to receive a pink slip from their bishop? Maybe the very existence of Pastoring 232 will tip them off to the fact that they are signing on as sailors aboard the SS Titanic.
Recommendations will go to the national church’s faith, worship and ministry committee, which will develop a proposal for common standards. Chapman is hoping that Primate George Hiltz, head of the Anglican Church in Canada, will create a commission to address the problems.
Having watched ecclesiastical politics for several years, I’m guessing that there is more to this story. Most likely, the current seminaries are already accredited.
Why would the liberals be interested in imposing common standards for a seminary curriculum? Are more students attending conservative seminaries than liberal ones?
Maybe Chapman should incorporate the curriculum for training anesthesiologists in medical school and train clergy in implementing “local” administration for congregations in conflict and “general” anesthesia for those congregations requiring euthanasia.
Just for your information, the Primate’s first name is Fred, not George, which the Ottawa Citizen managed to get wrong.
George, Fred, Frank, Kate….......what’s the difference, they are all interchangeable culturites.
