Lent & Beyond’s Appeal for Anglican Lenten Resources

Thursday, February 26, 2009 • 2:00 pm

Lent & Beyond is appealing for recommendations of Anglican Lenten Resources.

Check out the entire post and send in your recommendations to them:

But given that Lent & Beyond is billed as an “Anglican Prayer Blog,” there’s a pretty glaring shortfall in that list. Very few of the resources linked below are specifically Anglican.

In the overall scheme of things, that’s not such a big deal. Over the years, I’ve been blessed and encouraged by Lenten resources from Roman Catholic sources, Orthodox sources, Lutheran sources, Evangelical sources, etc. When it comes to Lent, one does not need to be strictly confessional / denominational.

Note that the Lenten home page with resources and posts is here.

Posting again in case anyone missed it -
The priests at St. Peter’s Tallahassee, FL are preaching a sermon series called Anglican Essentials - going through the essential doctrines and through the Scriptures in 20 sermons, including yesterday, Ash Wednesday, entitled ‘The Necessity of Repentance’ (certainly an essential Anglican message in this day):  http://www.saint-peters.net/20essentials

A few hours ago, I posted a link to Lenten devotionals from Anglican Mainstream, here:
http://anglicanprayer.wordpress.com/2009/02/26/lent-resource-daily-lenten-devotionals-at-anglican-mainstream/

I just had an e-mail from Chris Sugden who let me know that these devotionals come from Church of the Resurrection in Tampa.

They’re sending out the devotionals for each week as a Word or PDF document.  If you are interested, contact

It’s also available online:  (Week 1)

And now for a moment of embarrassment.

I am ashamed to say, I did not take time recently to check Truro’s website to see what they had available for Lent.

I hadn’t read about anything in the weekly T-mail e-mail which provides parish news, but I’ve been so busy recently, I could have missed something.

So. After launching my big appeal for good Anglican Lent resources, what do I find, but that Truro has a GREAT Lent devotional booklet - a comprehensive study of the 10 Commandments - Online.

Go here:

Thrilled to see it.  But quite embarrassed that I didn’t know about it earlier, nor even think to check.

Update: I got curious and wondered if some of the other big Anglican churches have Lent resources online.  Hopped over to Christ Church Plano’s website.  Yes, indeed they do have Lent Resources, here.  Note the downloadable PDF Devotional booklet “By the Cross”.
