I think there is a wider context in which these consents are being handled. So far it would seem that there is a substantial number of bishops who wish to demonstrate to the wider Communion that they are Creedally and Liturgically orthodox in what they deem to be “matters essential” even if many of them may entertain opinions on sexual behavior which some of us may believe calls into question their fidelity to the doctrine of Holy Matrimony, or perhaps its nature that Biblical and Traditional formularies suggest.

The standing committee vote just goes to show that it’s a lot of the clergy/lay inmates who are running the asylum, and not necessarily the bishops.

Bp. Baxter is not just another run of the mill bishop.  As the former Dean of Washington Cathedral he holds something of a special status in certain circles.  This may well influence some as yet undecided left & center-left bishops to vote no.

I’m sure this decision was made prayerfully and with much sober reflection upon what the vows of a bishop require of one called to the office of bishop.

Peace,

I wonder if the good bishop will have some sit downs with his clergy on their votes?

While there is no evidence of vote fraud, the prosecutor said their efforts were aimed at avoiding an expensive - and very public - hand recount of all votes cast. Three top county elections officials have been indicted, and Erie County Prosecutor Kevin Baxter says more indictments are possible. 646-230
Michael Vu, executive director of the Cuyahoga County elections board, said workers followed procedures that had been in place for 23 years. He said board employees had no objection to doing an exhaustive hand count if needed, meaning they had no motive to break the law. MB2-632
Internet bloggers have cried foul since 2004 about election results in Ohio, one of the key states in deciding the election. They have been tracking Baxter’s investigation with online posts about the indictments. Baxter’s prosecution centers on Ohio’s safeguards for ensuring that every vote is counted.Baxter charges that Cuyahoga election workers - mindful of the monthlong Florida recount in 2000 - JN0-400 not only ignored the safeguards but worked to defeat them during Ohio’s 2004 recount. Candidates for president from the Green and Libertarian parties requested the Ohio recount. State laws and regulations specify how a recount works.
