The Split Widens: Bishop of Maryland Uninvites Archbishop of Ghana

Sunday, February 18, 2007 • 1:44 pm

As Kendall might say, ugh:

It is obvious to everyone here that it would now be completely inappropriate for you to celebrate the Eucharist at our Cathedral on Palm Sunday. Surely, many parishioners would protest you visit by not receiving Communion from you. Since I do not allow such behavior in this Diocese, I cannot encourage it by your presence. Clearly it would be inappropriate for you to preach Tuesday in Holy Week to a combined group of Lutheran and Episcopal clergy, since you do not even share Communion with other Anglicans. Finally, it is sadly clear to Nancy and me that your presence at my retirement celebration is out of order as well. I give thanks for the eight years we have been in relationship; we have many friends in Accra and in Ghana, and I am aware that there are a number of them who will be shocked and grieved by your behavior. I have always shared honestly with you (even though I have not felt in the past two years you have been so honest in your sharing) and want to say we have great affection for the +Justice we knew in those earlier years. Since becoming Archbishop, you have changed and I do not feel I know you anymore.

Ugh, indeed.

“protest you (sic) visit by not receiving Communion from you.”

Looks like he got this out so quickly he didn’t have time to proof it.

How will the music change?  DON’T Kumbaya!  M’Lord!  DON’T Kumbaya!

Gotta love that “inclusive listening gospel” the PB likes to brag about in practice, don’t ya?

I’ve been to Baltimore, and didn’t much care for it.  So getting “uninvited” may not be that bad of a thing.

This is just one more sad example of TEC. Believe aanything you want as long as it is not orthodox Christianity. Those orthodox Episcopalians within ECUSA had best better begin to make plans to go elsewhere if they wish to preserve their orthodox, biblical faith. There are still church, both Anglican and others who preach Christ crucified, died, risen and coming again. It is a matter of our eternal salvation and we cannot remain in communion with heretical bishops. The early Church told its people to flee from herterodox bishops and seek those who are orthodox. And in my humble opinion we 21st Century Christians need to heed that advice and get out of ECUSA while there is some semblance of the Christian religion still being practiced.

Let’s all get out our hankies and shed one little tiny tear from the left(ist) eye and sniff a few times for the poor childish bishop of Maryland.  Methinks it is time for him to retire after all.

Well now we see how wide the tent is and how all view are tolerated in TEC.  Hopefully there will be time for all the primates to see this wonderful piece of tolerance. Shall we now pray for this sinner’s soul?

I posted this on the other thread, but wanted to put it here as well.  Please forgive my duplication.

Ah Ihloff, I remember that name.  He is the bishop that led the Theology committee at the 2003 General Convention and had to come up with the Scriptural rationale for supporting Robinson’s election.  If you read what was written then, it was very obvious that the author(s) had no understanding of Scripture, whatsoever.  And now he is dis-inviting one of the few primates that had the courage to act on his convictions?  Ihloff is a hollow man and he and others of his ilk have destroyed a once might Christian Church.

Also, don’t overlook how the “carrot and club” of money gets placed into play here.  TEC still doesn’t understand that these primates are walking away from this blood money in order to save their souls.

I’ve posted a longer comment in the other thread about this letter on Stand Firm. I will repeat this one thought- REPREHENSIBLE! The manner in which this letter was distributed, the tone, the decision in the letter, the theology of Mr. Ihloff are reprehensible.

An oaf! That’s all I can come up with.

Ick!  The reduction of serious theological differences to matters of “relationship” is manipulative and adolescent.  How does a mature man take an enormous issue and make it all about himself as if the the ABp of Ghana refused communion on the other side of the world to hurt this man personally?  Please tell me this man has not given his life to pastoral work.  He flunks Pastoral Ministry 101—just in time to retire.  The Church is Maryland is better off without him.  No, wait, this is ECUSA—plenty more where he came from.

J. Suggs-

Well said.

This should give you a chuckle.  Before Ihloff had a “relationship” with +Akrofi, the diocese was paired with the (I will probably get this wrong) Nippon Sei (?!), anyway in Japan.  Japan was the one who broke off the “relationship” after VGR’s becoming a bishop.  The “relationship” with Accra, Ghana has only been official since 2003.
I guess Ihloff couldn’t dazzle him with his “theology” (and, My 2 Cents - I read that piece of fantasy that Ihloff wrote too. It took a lot of Tums to not toss my cookies right in front of him!).
