Bishop of South Dakota: DioSD is a Safe Place… for Louie Crew and +VGR!

I have received three letters from folks in the Diocese urging me to vote a particular way concerning an election of a Bishop. I have been told that since the Diocesan Convention voted that this Diocese be a “safe place” that I needed to vote a certain way. That is not my understanding of what a “safe place” is and I chose to vote my conscience in the matter. BUT, I am very happy that folks are paying attention to the Diocese being a “safe place” since that will make it much easier to invite folks like Mr. Louie Crew and the Right Reverend V. Gene Robinson to visit us, Celebrate with us and perhaps learn from us. I am excited that I will be able to take either of these gentlemen to any of our congregations to visit and know that they will be treated “safely” and given the dignity that every human being is assured by virtue of our Baptismal Covenant!!

Thanks for posting this. Several of us wrote to the Bishop and the Standing Committee (and one of the letters was signed by my entire Vestry) encouraging votes of consent for Mark Lawrence in South Carolina.
His reply was the message above, posted on the diocesan website.

Hmmm… Sounds to me like the Bishop is taking a little swipe at those that would request his support for Mark Lawrence. Looks like the DioSD will be voting against Lawrence…

Creighton has often been described as “obsessive defiant” (when he manages on rare occasion to show up for work). Because there was a resolution passed at our diocesean convention this year which recognized that there was dissent from his uber-liberal positions (the safe place he was speaking about above), this is his shot-across-the-bow to the dissenters. So, now he will also be known as “passive aggressive”. I noticed he didn’t send this to every member of the diocese via snail mail, but posted it on the now heavily censored diocesean blog site….in which only a half-dozen of the group-thinkers are ever allowed to post anything. Result? NOBODY will see it. So, at least here, we’ll continue to call it SLOUCHING toward Gomorrah…he is pragmatic enough (in this red state) to keep it from becoming a slide or tilt.
