Not since Dr. Zachary Smith skulked aboard the Jupiter 2 has there been so much pain (on the part of the performer, that is. That of the audience exceeds it by several magnitudes.)
Superb, Doctor. I thought that the prolix patois was incapable of further humorous treatment than its own existence, but I see that you had the winsome wit to win and achieve a sublime explication which was ACTUALLY funnier than the original.
Should we ever meet, I insist upon the honour of throwing my coat over any mud puddles we may encounter to have it blessed by the feet of one who brings light into darkness. I shall never have it cleaned! I shall display it proudly beside the framed review for which you are justly famous!
It’s almost as if he’s just woken from a 5 year coma and learned that not everyone on the planet is crazy about the idea of his consecration. And he’s befuddled, poor soul.
#1 - I’ll go one better. I’ve never been registered to vote. I’ve never been even slightly tempted. But if Doc Mabuse were running for president in this year’s election, I’d emerge from my apathy and despair and volunteer all of my time and money to her campaign. Too bad she’s Canadian.
Whenever VGR speaks, the vertical pronoun gets a remorseless workout.
This is slightly off-topic but related. One of the things that Doc Mabuse points out in this piece is how Gene Robinson seems to imply he has important insights to share with the other bishops as Lambeth, sort of as an Episcopal guru, I would guess. This reminds me of the very few email exchanges I had with Katherine Jefferts Schori long before she became the PB. You see, I had sent a broadcast email to every single active bishop at the time who had email regarding the election of Gene Robinson. KJS actually answered me, in a very smug and condescending way. I wish I still had those emails so I could share the exact wording with you. My point, and I do have one, is that many of the ring leaders on the reappraising side of all of these issues seem to have no humility. They seem to feel that their thoughts, experiences and conclusions are far greater than those of, oh, say, GOD and His Word. And they all but come right out and tell anyone who disagrees with them that they are uneducated, ignorant and unenlightened. It causes me to think of that “the first shall be last and the last shall be first” thing. Perhaps they will have a surprise in store once they leave this earth.
"KJS actually answered me, in a very smug and condescending way.”
That is how she sounded in the Mt Pleasant, SC, conversations. I guess she has the gnosis, and we unenlightened do not....
Brings to mind the old song su·per·cal·i·frag·i·lis·tic·ex·pi·al·i·gno·sis
Pronunciation [soo-per-kal-uh-fraj-uh-lis-tik-ek-spee-al-i-noh-sis]
AnglicanXn,
Absolutely, and I almost said as much in that thread but did not. Also, on the SC tapes, she almost sounded as though she were trying to use hypnotic technique of lowering her voice, speaking in slow and even, almost flat, tones. I found that rather bizarre actually and couldn’t watch more than a few minutes.
