Connecticut 6: Closer to the Edge

Six embattled priests in the Diocese of Connecticut have reached an impasse with Bishop Andrew Smith. A meeting held Friday between Bishop Smith and the priests failed to yield a solution to the standoff over alternative oversight.

I just want everyone to know that yesterday I wrote a letter to my parents letting them know that I hadn't received my yearly gift of money and that, as such, they had abandoned "the communion".

I'll let you know how it works out.

# Posted by: Sarah at April 19, 2005 07:22 AM

Dude! Sarah - Wow - how unchristian of them! How unloving! Have you reported this to the police?

# Posted by: Jackie at April 19, 2005 10:21 AM

No, but I have prepared for them my letters of inhibition from participation in the Communion of Sarah [COS].

# Posted by: Sarah at April 19, 2005 11:00 AM

Being a good member of COS, I am certain you have properly worded and tightened up your canons, the standing and executive committees - firmly in your court. Because of their gross neglect of the COS, it is fitting that they be denied of their ability to make a living also. You go, girl, and if these actions don't meet the standards found in that dusty tome called the Bible - don't worry, we know a bish who will be happy to rewrite it for you.

# Posted by: Jackie at April 19, 2005 01:41 PM

Yeah, and so much for "Honor thy father and thy mother", too.

But hey, what's a little command of Scriptures weighed in the scales of the New Testament....

# Posted by: Dumb Ox at April 19, 2005 02:50 PM

Yes, Jackie, I've got my Standing Committee working on the canons right now.

But hey, all they need to do to be back in communion is simply send that check to the Diocesan coffers and all shall be well with the old COS . . .

; > )

Sarah, if your parents like to spread around their benevolences, please mention my parish (St. Andrew's, Vestal, NY). If their thinking is anything like yours about the north, maybe you could convince them that we're doing missionary work up here.

# Posted by: Tony at April 19, 2005 06:59 PM

Seriously, Bishop Smith seems completely clueless and unyielding in his cluelessness. Our brethen in CT need our concerted prayers.

# Posted by: Tony at April 19, 2005 07:01 PM

Tony: Are you in the Communion of Sarah [COS]?????

If so -- where is your diocesan pledge?

I would hate to have to charge you with the abandonment of the faith.

But sometimes a leader has to do hard things.

I await your response -- or your 17% asking, which would be better.

# Posted by: Sarah at April 19, 2005 09:02 PM

Sarah, I wonder if your parents found you to be too high maintainence. Maybe your are just a SAP (southern anglican princess) Maybe they just sent all their money over to Africa to support missions in that dark continant. But as for the COS, since it is so spiritual maybe it should just pray and trust the Lord to supply all needs! Just faith it in.

# Posted by: Prophet Micaiah at April 19, 2005 10:35 PM

PM: the communion of faith is ever thus -- high maintenance, may I say . . . costly. Deeply profound, mystically emanating from the force fields of unity, out on the plain of Sufi Rumi, beyond right and wrong. I will meet them there.

I can only hope that the parents recognize the many faces of truth that may be found in the COS. If they do . . . they will put their hand on the back of that television set, feel the power, and *Mail in the Money for Unity*!!!!

[Convenient money-grams for Tony, parents, or others wanting to be a part of the COS may be found at the back of the narthex in the little tastefully-carved mahogany wooden holders. Please . . . mail one in for unity.]

Sarah--Get a grip! I prescribe chocolate for lunch desert.

Signed: Concerned (B^)

I think we should begin the process of making Sarah a Saint in the COS. Saint Samurai Sarah of the Low Country, Patron Saint of Chocolate Desserts. Has a nice ring to it, wouldn't you say?

Well . . .

Okay.

If you say so.

Of course, I feel very humbled and all.

Alrighty, then. We need to pick a feast day. Any suggestions? Brown vestments, of course, in recognition of the Chocolate.

This ought to be good. Sarah has been acheiving a studied and impressive avoidance of the chocolate line for a while.

The miracle of Sarah's reconciliation with the Chocolate is, of course, taken into account in the Sainthood process.

I'm just waiting for Greg to yank this thread about you-know-what. But maybe it is carried on in the spirit of joy over a good pope. Yeah, that's it. If we were in Rome, we would celebrate with food and drink as well as with Te Deums and prayers.

# Posted by: M. Cahill at April 20, 2005 03:16 PM

With my latest elevation, I no longer need to pay attention to the little people and their small heresies [slanders] regarding Samurai and chocolate . . .

Once I appoint the new Minister of Theological Correctness things will change. Time enough for stake-burnings -- or, for 4 hour meetings in my bishopric chambers, take your pick -- once that crucial appointment is made.

But, on a sheerly stylistic note . . . brown will not do, as it does not suit me.

I prefer black. And I think that would be suitable for a variety of important theological reasons. . . for one thing, it's a slimming color.

My Minister of Culture will work on the cut and cloth while I'm out doing my trail run this afternoon. Five luscious miles of soft pine needles, while other Anglicans -- soft, blobby ones -- will be lolling/globbing about on suede couches watching the Roman Catholic Channel, reading Griswold's latest Ratzinger greeting, and doing absolutely nothing worthwhile in our battle.

Once the victories start rolling in, and I get the medals and palm leaves and roars-of-crowds, you'll wish you had trained differently. . . . If you are alive, that is, and haven't had the ignominy of falling over dead of a heart attack or some other non-falling-in-heat-of-battle expiration.

If you intend to employ a court jester, I would like to apply for the position. Resume available on request.

Michael,

The position of court jester is already taken.

I currently have 996 court jesters . . .

Would you like to be my Official Seamstress?

# Posted by: Sarah at April 21, 2005 05:58 AM

Have you engaged the grizzalator as your head jester? He is doing such a fine job in this position at ECUSA.

# Posted by: Jackie at April 21, 2005 02:24 PM

Ghastly news!

In response to my letter requesting the protection money for the Corleones, or their parishes might "meet with an unfortunate accident" -- "a love offering" was actually how I put it -- my former parents wrote me back and said that they were seeking shelter with some sort of other bishop in another Province of COS!!!!!!

I'm firing up the depositions right now . . . all of my remaining clergy are entirely on my side . . . no one wants to be out of the Communion . . .

Despite their complete lack of love for starving minorities in Tanzania -- which is who is effected by this lack of giving -- I hope that they will repent soon.

alas your Sarahness,
Your long suffering flunky Cretinaeus Luous here,
We're having to sell churches to ugh Evangelicals, the Pope is cutting off contact due to avarice and theology issues, and the IRS is looking closely at your tax-free 'donation' status for the COS.
